What Are RIC Hearing Aids?
RIC (Receiver-in-Canal) hearing aids have a small unit behind the ear connected by a thin wire to a receiver, or speaker, inside the ear canal. The receiver delivers amplified sound through a soft dome or custom earmould
Unlike conventional BTE hearing aids, which send sound through tubing, RIC models place the speaker directly inside the ear canal. This arrangement allows a compact behind-the-ear design with different receiver power options.
RIC hearing aids are available with rechargeable batteries, replaceable batteries and wireless features, depending on the model. Suitability depends on your hearing test, receiver strength and earpiece fitting.
How Do RIC Hearing Aids Work?
Microphones pick up surrounding sounds, and a digital processor adjusts them according to your hearing needs. A thin wire carries the processed signal to the receiver inside your ear canal, where it becomes amplified sound.

Who Should Consider RIC Hearing Aids?
Consider RIC hearing aids if you want a compact behind-the-ear device with a choice of receiver strengths and modern features. BTE models may be worth comparing when amplification needs or handling preferences favour a different design.
ITE and CIC devices offer in-ear alternatives, with different trade-offs in size, controls and available features.
Best choice: Select the style that meets your hearing requirements, feels comfortable and fits your daily routine. A hearing test and trial help narrow the options.

Some RIC models offer higher-power receivers for greater amplification needs. Suitability depends on the model’s fitting range, your hearing test and the chosen earpiece. A professional assessment should guide the decision.

Selected RIC models support Bluetooth streaming, phone calls or app controls. Compatibility differs between hearing aids and phones, so check your exact phone model before buying.
No. RIC hearing aids are discreet, but the unit sits behind the ear and a thin wire runs towards the ear canal. Visibility depends on the device, colour, hairstyle and viewing angle.
Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth and check the domes and wax filters as instructed. Keep them away from unnecessary moisture and have your hearing-care professional show you how to maintain the receiver.
